Within the Environmental Services Division, the City of Goleta’s Stormwater subdivision is responsible for ensuring Goleta’s clean watersheds, thriving habitats, and clean communities, the importance of which are represented in our City’s logo. This subdivision provides crucial services for our residents, who take pride in their community. Our effective program is visually evident to our residents by clean water, healthy habitats, and beautiful surroundings for recreation. Our residents, along with City of Goleta Staff, comprise an engaged community, who cherish their time outdoors and enjoy volunteering to help better their community.

The primary goal of the Stormwater subdivision is to prevent pollution. Stormwater pollution is urban runoff water that has picked up pollutants as it flows through the storm drain system–a network of channels, gutters and pipes that collect runoff from city streets, neighborhoods, agriculture, construction sites and parking lots–and empties directly into local waterways. Unlike wastewater flows that get treated to remove pollutants, stormwater flows directly to the storm drains and eventually to our waterways without treatment. If not managed properly, this untreated runoff can carry many pollutants to our waterways and eventually the ocean. The City of Goleta has many programs in place to prevent pollution. Read more to learn about these programs and how you can get involved.
