Being a young city presents enormous opportunity for residents to shape the future of this beautiful place. The public is encouraged to participate in City government in a variety of ways.

• Attend City Council meetings every first and third Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are broadcast live on Goleta TV Channel 19 or on the City’s website at www.CityofGoleta.org/GoletaMeetings. Whether the meeting is being held virtually or in person at City Hall, members of the public are encouraged to voice their opinions on community issues.
• Apply to become a member of a City Board or Commission to help shape City policy;
• Enroll in the City’s LEAD (Learn Empower Advocate Discuss) Academy, a free, interactive and eye-opening six week program designed to help community members better understand the role that local government plays so that they can effectively participate, share that knowledge with others and possibly even consider a future role in city governance.

You may call the City of Goleta General Office at (805) 961-7500 to speak to a member of the City's staff between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday. City Hall General Offices are closed on Fridays. You may leave a message after normal business hours and a staff member will get back to you the following business day.

Join us for our City Council meetings every first and third Tuesday evenings of the month at 5:30 p.m. You can watch the meetings live on Goleta TV Channel 19, and live or recorded our website at www.CityofGoleta.org/GoletaMeetings. When not virtual, City Council meetings are held in Council Chambers at 130 Cremona Drive, Suite B. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings are currently being held virtually. The public is still able (and encouraged) to participate.

There are also a number of Board and Commission meetings the public can participate in: Design Review Board, Library Advisory Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, and Public Engagement Commission. Learn more about the City's Boards and Commissions here.

Our City’s eight square miles are nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and Pacific Ocean, offering unparalleled scenic beauty.  More than 30,000 people live in Goleta, and many more commute to work here. One of the best parts of living and working in Goleta is the approximately 550 acres of city parks and open space.  Goleta’s parks and playground facilities consist of nine neighborhood parks, five community parks, nine neighborhood open spaces, six regional open spaces, one community center, and three mini parks. Exploring nature is an important part of the Goleta lifestyle and the parks and open spaces are opportunities for residents to experience the outdoors.

Whether you have lived in this community for years or are brand-new, it is easy to agree that this is a special place. It is called Goleta the Goodland for a reason; it is filled with Good People.
