Goleta is a community that cares deeply about reducing waste and its impact on the environment. To help our community achieve this goal, we can all contribute to learning more about Waste Reduction and making changes in our day to day lives.

There is much more to modern waste management than just trash and recycling. The majority of our waste management programs are focused on Waste Reduction in alignment with the Four R's of Waste Free Goleta: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. As a community, we are driving towards zero waste, and we have many programs to help achieve that goal.

This facility is located at the Tajiguas Landfill and includes a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and an Anaerobic Digestion Facility (ADF). This is a cutting edge facility that converts commercial and residential waste into resources by recovering recyclable materials, transforming organics into landscape nutrients, and creating renewable energy in the process. Overall the facility will bring our region's diversion rate above 85% while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
