The Creek and Watershed Management Program (CWMP) includes detailed information on the dozen creeks that run through our community, identifies impairments to these creeks, and outlines programs and specific future actions to address identified impairments. It also outlines best practices to provide habitat for fish and wildlife, accommodate wildlife movement corridors, convey stormwater runoff and floodwaters, and furnish open space and passive recreational areas for City residents.

The purpose of the CWMP is to fulfill General Plan Implementation Action CE-IA-3. CE-IA-3 requires a citywide Creek and Watershed Management Plan be prepared to provide detailed standards of acceptable practices for protecting the ecological function, water quality, and drainage and flood control function of Goleta's creeks and watersheds.

The City hosted a Lunch & Learn on September 27, 2024, for attendees to learn more about the City’s Creek and Watershed Program and the Southern California Steelhead Trout, an endangered species native to our creeks here in Goleta. Review the presentation here.

Glen Annie Creek Cleanup

Help the Environmental Defense Center, City of Goleta, and Santa Barbara Urban Creeks Council remove trash from Glen Annie Creek! This is one of six creek clean-ups this fall.

Litter washing off streets through storm drains into the stream is a threat to wildlife in the creek, the Goleta Slough, and the ocean.

Participants should bring a hat and sunscreen, sturdy closed-toe shoes, drinking water in a reusable container, and mask and work gloves.

For more information and to RSVP, Contact Brian Trautwein at BTrautwein@EnvironmentalDefenseCenter.org or 805-963-1622 x108.

Future Creek Cleanups in 2023:

  • November 4 – San Pedro Creek; meet at the Covington footbridge
  • November 18 – Maria Ygnacio Creek; meet at Tabano Way at Matorral Way
  • December 2 – Atascadero Creek; meet at Turnpike Road, southern dead-end below Hollister Ave

Thank you for helping keep Goleta clean and healthy!
