The Creek and Watershed Management Program (CWMP) includes detailed information on the dozen creeks that run through our community, identifies impairments to these creeks, and outlines programs and specific future actions to address identified impairments. It also outlines best practices to provide habitat for fish and wildlife, accommodate wildlife movement corridors, convey stormwater runoff and floodwaters, and furnish open space and passive recreational areas for City residents.
The purpose of the CWMP is to fulfill General Plan Implementation Action CE-IA-3. CE-IA-3 requires a citywide Creek and Watershed Management Plan be prepared to provide detailed standards of acceptable practices for protecting the ecological function, water quality, and drainage and flood control function of Goleta's creeks and watersheds.
The City hosted a Lunch & Learn on September 27, 2024, for attendees to learn more about the City’s Creek and Watershed Program and the Southern California Steelhead Trout, an endangered species native to our creeks here in Goleta. Review the presentation here.

Beautify Goleta: Put A Smile On Your Place
Volunteer for the City’s Community Cleanup Program

Spend Saturday, July 22nd outside helping clean up trash and litter throughout Goleta. Sign up now and volunteer from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on event day. Meet at Winchester II Open Space to come help pick up litter. Beautify Goleta Founder and former Councilmember Roger Aceves will host our Spotlight location at Winchester II Open Space. The Beautify Goleta theme for our July event is “Put A Smile on Your Place,” Beautify Goleta’s slogan. All volunteers who participate will receive a Beautify Goleta volunteer t-shirt (now featuring kid sizes!). Additionally, all volunteers will be entered into a prize giveaway for waste reduction themed items including:
- Stainless steel bento boxes for lunch
- Bees wax produce wraps
- Reusable produce bags
- Reusable napkins
- Reusable silicone snack bags
There will also be a FREE bulky item drop off from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Goleta City Hall on Cremona Drive (130 Cremona Drive) open to ALL GOLETA RESIDENTS. Electronics, hazardous waste, and medications will not be accepted. Acceptable items include, but are not limited to: mattresses and box springs; wood and metal furniture; plastic tables, desks and chairs; and wood pallets and tires.
