Pursuant to the Public Records Act (California Government Code Section 7920., et seq.), a person may request copies or review public records. With certain exceptions, all City records are available for public inspection.

Responding to Request for Public Records

The City will provide information within 10 days or advise you in writing of any exemption from disclosure or delay in providing the information and when it will be made available. Information that is readily available and not exempt will be provided promptly. Requests that are not exempt from disclosure, that require research, retrieval, and reproduction will be provided at the earliest date possible.

*Requests for Plans

Due to copyright laws, copies of building plans or architectural drawings (electronic or hard copy) cannot be provided without the express written consent of the property owner and the architect/engineer of record. Any request for duplication of plans in the possession of the City of Goleta Building & Safety Division must comply with the requirements set forth in California Health & Safety Code Sections 19850-19853.
