The City of Goleta will celebrate the completion of the pedestrian improvements on Cathedral Oaks at Santa Marguerita on Wednesday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. The event will be held at the project site.
PROJECT INFORMATION: The project includes solar-powered pedestrian activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) on Cathedral Oaks Road at Santa Marguerita Drive. These beacons provide an additional visual cue to alert motorists when a pedestrian wishes to cross the street. In addition to the flashing beacons, the dedicated turn lane from westbound Cathedral Oaks Road to northbound Santa Marguerita Avenue was removed; curb extensions were added for the north leg of the intersection toward the center of Cathedral Oaks Road; and a median pedestrian refuge area was created. An additional street light at the southwest corner of the intersection will be installed by Southern California Edison shortly.
The project was funded through a combination of Measure A Alternative Transportation Grants, Measure A local funds and Transportation Development Account (TDA) funds.
