On Thursday, April 17th, 2013, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Masters of City & Regional Planning studio class conducted their first community meeting at the Goleta Valley Community Center regarding future visions for the Old Town area. Participation by community members was great, as the discussion, ideas, and strategies offered by participants were very helpful to the students.
The Planning and Environmental Review Department, with assistance from Public Works and Neighborhood Services, is facilitating the students in a 10-week class project, to prepare three Conceptual Old Town Goleta Visioning Plans. The Visioning Plans are based on public engagement conducted by the students as well as the students practice and understanding of relevant urban design principles. Areas of emphasis that the students will be studying is conceptual development, land use, public space, design guidelines, and implementation and phasing.
The next community meeting is May 6th, 2013 at the Goleta Valley Community Center, starting at 7:00PM. Participation by community members is vital in assisting the students in achieving their educational goals of producing three conceptual Vision Plans.
