Mothers and Children in the Arts in Africa - by Professor Herbert Cole, History of Art and Architecture, UCSB
Presented by the Friends of the Goleta Library.
Maternity images and those of children are diverse in form and meaning throughout Africa. Early mother-and-child sculptures tend to glorify women, while more recent art reflects the reality that women are often the targets of abuse in domestic life and warfare. Prof. Cole will correct stereotypes and bring actual images of mothers and children for the audience to see.
