CalRecycle Green Roads Workshop

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, also known as CalRecycle, is working to advance its tire waste reduction efforts and promote the use of tire-derived products through its Green Roads Program. It is CalRecycle’s goal to reduce the amount of tires that occupy California’s landfills by putting recycled tires to use.

The CalRecycle Green Roads workshop is so interested parties can gain in-depth knowledge on these tire-derived products. The workshop is a FREE half-day workshop where experts will provide the latest information on CalRecycle incentives, the best practices in manufacturing and placement of RAC, and using TDA in civil engineering applications.

RAC – Rubberized Asphalt Concrete – is made from a combination of asphalt and crumb rubber that’s derived from ground up waste tires. RAC offers a number of advantages over traditional asphalt in road applications: the surface stays a darker color longer, which improves driver visibility by providing excellent contrast between road surface and markings; it reduces splash during wet conditions and is skid resistant; and it is more durable and long-lasting than regular pavement. RAC also saves money because it can be applied at half the thickness of traditional pavement, and also requires fewer repairs.

TDA—Tire-Derived Aggregate- is made of 100 percent recycled waste tires. The tires are shredded to specific sizes unique to a wide range of public works projects and other civil engineering applications. TDA is used as lightweight embankment fill that is used to repair landslide damage and as a vibration mitigation layer under light rail tracks.

Both RAC and TDA are cost-effective, high-performing, sustainable products that adds true environmental integrity to construction projects. For more information visit www.pavinggreenroads.com, call (916) 492-0923,or email jluong@katzandassociates.com.
