Description

The project proposes a new bridge at Armitos Avenue over San Jose Creek.  The bridge will consist of one traffic lane in each direction and pedestrian and bicycle facilities.  A draft feasibility study to analyze bridge alignment alternatives, identify project constraints, and identify environmental impacts has been completed for the project.

Purpose and Need

There are several residential developments located on the east side of San Jose Creek bordered by Hollister Ave to the south, State Route 217 to the west and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks to the orth.  Dearborn Pl. off of Hollister Ave is the only access road into this area.  Armitos Avenue is discontinuous with a segment ending at San Jose Creek on both the east side and the west side of the creek.  The project will connect both segments making Armitos Avenue a continuous low volume access route to these neighborhoods and will provide and additional access route in case of emergency.  The project will incorporate pedestrian and bicycle facilities providing access to the new San Jose Creek Class I bike path located on the west side of the creek and the new Old Town/ Kellogg Park.
